Knowledge content should have storytelling to level up the game
It seems like knowledge is presented in a boring way lately.
When was the last time you read a blog/article or a LinkedIn post that was super interesting to read that made you save to write a similar way?
Two things here —
There’s dope content but presented in a boring way, so people miss out on valuable information just because it’s uninteresting while reading.
Then there’s generic content but presented in an interesting’story’ format, so people relate to it more.
What’s more circulating here?
I feel the second one — because there are more storytellers who like to keep it short and express generic content in more creative and unique ways. But fewer storytellers provide the actual knowledge in an interesting way — we want such people more.
What to do when someone needs information?
Understanding that ‘the audience won’t read it until you present it in a way the entertainment and culture articles go online’ is the key.
But using references, making it interesting, and holding readers till the end has become more difficult than ever — for a writer.
Not every example suits the information we (writers) are going to say, and this research is taking more time than researching the actual information of the article.
How to solve this?
Consuming content that’s valuable and presented in an interesting way — that’s the only way. Because reading such content will make writers understand how to do it and when to do it.
I read something valuable on LinkedIn lately; read it here.
I read this only because of my need. I wasn’t in a mood to care whether it was interesting or not. Because I want to know how LinkedIn has changed and what factors to consider for building my personal brand on it.
I have come to this perspective after reading 100s of uninteresting blogs, articles, and LinkedIn posts to learn about LinkedIn — the new version.
So, no brand or service can wait till the reader gets bored and comes to read their article for the pure knowledge they provided. It honestly takes months to discover that content (brand’s).
One more problem here is —
Though the piece seems interesting, the timing of people reading it or coming across it is pretty bad. They are more focused on whether it’s providing information in an easily understandable way, solving their problem or not, and don’t really care about the references that the writer used.
Where does the solution lie?
So, the first step is writing knowledge content interestingly. Inserting’storytelling’ where and when needed — to give knowledge to the reader whenever they need it the most. So that every reader and writer will improve their quality in consuming content; it levels up the game 🎯
There’s a problem in consuming content, leading to writing generic content with just information — no one wants to read it — and the result — no views.
To write interestingly, one should read interesting content. Though it takes time, researching great content will make writers think creatively and inspire them to write engagingly by not dragging too much when there’s information that has to be received by the reader and when to drag and provide references that hold the reader to continue reading.
AI’s part
AI has made many writers think low and bare minimum. I see the brands also insist writers make the work faster and push tools to be creative with prompt engineering. They don’t need writers anymore; they need prompt engineers who can squeeze work from AI. They need creative subject matter experts.
One simple point for brands —
AI cannot write creatively like a human. Because a writer sees various types of content and comes up with an interesting storyline. However, AI will only limit its research to the topic that’s mentioned in the prompt. If we ask AI to look at the world of content and come up with an interesting line, it cannot. It still sees only the relevant articles/blogs written on the internet and tries to make one with that information.
Insisting writers to use tools and forcing them to become subject matter experts is clearly making them think the bare minimum, killing their creativity in the thinking stage itself. How can a writer come up with a masterpiece?
It’s impossible. Give them the time to research; let them come up with a great line and write a masterpiece. All you can do is give them some time. They know how to improve their craft; all they need is the time.
